Engineering Applications

What is Engineering Applications?  In this era of rapid technological change, there is a continuing need for persons with an engineering background. The Engineering Applications major is specifically designed to develop this background by merging several engineering disciplines or by combining engineering with disciplines outside of engineering.

The curriculum consists of a basic core of required courses in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics to which are added elective courses in the categories of mathematics and basic sciences, social sciences and humanities (SSH), supporting and professional subjects. Within this framework, students may specialize to reach specific educational or professional objectives of their choice. In the course of achieving individual student's objectives, the total credits may well exceed the minimum requirements of 121.5.

Prior to entering the Engineering Applications program, the student must have completed the basic program and have presented a description of the professional objective to be achieved through the program to the chair of the supervisory committee for approval. In addition, the student must submit a schedule of courses to support this objective. Until admitted to the program, students may enroll as undeclared engineers.


Areas of Emphasis.  Selected Engineering Applications areas of emphasis are listed below. Students are encouraged to propose other programs to meet individual professional objectives.

Journalism
 		 A degree in engineering combined with selected courses from journalism.
Engineering
Management
 		 A degree in engineering combined with an emphasis in business.
Environmental
Engineering
 		 A program to emphasize environmental applications of engineering.
Officer
Education
 		 A program in cooperation with Air Force Aerospace Studies, Naval Science, and Military Science. A minor is possible in Naval Science.
Technical
Sales
 		 A program providing preparation for selling products of a technical nature and consulting with the manufacturer and industrial consumer to solve engineering problems.
Engineering
Entrepreneurship
 		 A degree in engineering combined with an emphasis or minor in entrepreneurial studies.
Other A program may be planned by the individual student subject to approval by the supervisory committee. Distance learning program proposals will be considered.
